Castrolanda

A charming village with over 60 years of history, built little by little during the years of immigration.

Based on the pillars of Education, Religion and Cooperativism, the importance of the school, church and cooperative buildings is notable.

The building of the Prins Willem-Alexander Dutch School was built in 1954 to meet the educational needs of immigrant children. In 1998 it was “christened” by the then Prince Willem-Alexander and today it offers Dutch classes as an optional subject in the curriculum of the Evangelical School of the Community of Castrolanda.

In 1966, the current building of the Reformed Evangelical Church was built, considered a very modern architectural work for its time, offering (to this day) services in Portuguese and Dutch.

The cooperative under the name of “Cöoperatieve Vereniging Groepsemigratie Brazilië G.A.” (in short: Emigration Group to Brazil), was founded in 1951, while still in the Netherlands. In September 1951, the “Sociedade Cooperativa Castrolanda” was formed, which together with the Batavo cooperative (Carambeí), gave rise to the “Cooperativa Central de Laticínios”.

Currently under the name “Castrolanda Cooperativa Agroindustrial”, the cooperative operates in the agro-industrialization sector, with units in Ponta Grossa, Piraí do Sul, Curiúva, Ventania and Itaberá (SP), in addition to Castro.
