Castrolanda Cultural Center

The Castrolanda Cultural Center brings together two buildings: the Dutch Immigration Memorial, opened in 2001, and the Castrolanda Historical Museum, opened in 2016. Together, they form this complex that brings together the community’s cultural and memory spaces.

Dutch Immigration Memorial

It brings together the community library, a typical crafts store, an events hall, a restaurant/cafeteria and the “De Immigrant” windmill – The Immigrant, whose blades have a wingspan of 26 meters, is considered one of the largest windmills in the world. A replica of the “Woldzigt” windmill, in the Netherlands, where the immigrants came from.

Castrolanda Historical Museum

The museum’s headquarters represents a “boerderij” (farmhouse) characteristic of the northeastern region of the Netherlands, where most of the immigrants left from. The building encompasses two essential elements of peasant life: the peasant’s residence and work environment. The residence is located at the front, where the family’s daily life is organized. At the back of the building are the spaces originally used as animal stables, storage for provisions, machinery and tools.

Mission:

To keep the history and culture of Dutch immigration to Castrolanda alive, highlighting its values ​​for the community and future generations, students, researchers and the general public, through the preservation and communication of its collection.

Vision:

To obtain broad recognition for the preservation and dissemination of the historical trajectory and cultural heritage of Dutch immigration to Castrolanda, seeking to maintain its traditions.
